The ASID MN Student Scholarship

Award: $1500 to each participating college 

Fall: Alexandria Technical College, Century College, and Dakota County Technical College   

Spring: Dunwoody, North Dakota State University, South Dakota State University and the University of Minnesota                                 

 

Eligibility                                                              

2-Year Colleges (Fall)

Any student who has completed at least one year of undergraduate study enrolled in a two year accredited participating programs of interior design is eligible. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic accomplishment, creative achievement and volunteer involvement in the college design community. Project evaluation is based on presentation skills, design and planning competency and conceptual creativity and be judged by the school’s faculty. Residential and commercial projects are eligible. Group projects with multiple student designers are not eligible.

4- Year Colleges (Spring)

Any student who has completed at least three years of study at a four year participating accredited program of interior design is eligible. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic accomplishment, creative achievement and volunteer involvement in the college design community and be judged by the school’s faculty. Project evaluation is based on presentation skills, design and planning competency and conceptual creativity. Residential and commercial projects are eligible . Group projects with multiple student designers are not eligible.

Application Requirements:

-Personal Essay (1000 word maximum):

As artificial intelligence continues to revolutionize creative industries, interior designers are increasingly encountering AI-powered tools for space planning, mood board generation, material selection, and client visualization, fundamentally shifting how design concepts are developed and presented. In a well-structured essay, analyze your perspective on whether AI serves as an empowering tool that enhances human creativity and accessibility in interior design, or whether it poses a threat to the artistry, originality, and professional expertise that define the discipline.

-Academic Accomplishment showing a GPA of 3.1 or better (unofficial transcript)

-Letter of Recommendation (from industry representative or scholar)

-Design Project – Individual project, no group projects

-Headshot

-ASID Student Member preferred but not required. (Please indicate any appelations)

Scholarship submissions will be managed and reviewed by each college’s Interior Design Department, with the Faculty Head selecting the winner based on the criteria above. Selected entries will then be submitted to the ASID MN office. Each $1500 award will be applied toward the recipient’s tuition for the following semester. Students should contact their Interior Design Department for full submission details and deadlines.
